Lord Stanley's Cup
For as long as I can remember I have been a Boston Bruin fan. Someone asked me today why Boston and I guess that is a really good question. I assume it goes back to the days when I loved to watch the Bruins with Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Wayne Cashman, Ken Hodge, Derek Sanderson and of course Gerry Cheevers in goal. Who can ever forget the sight of Bobby Orr flying through the air and scoring the Stanley Cup winning goal against the St. Louis Blues. It's been a long time since the Bruins won the Cup. 1971 was the last time the Bruins won the Cup. You know how long that has been. Back then I had more hair and was skinnier. Thats 40 years ago.
Unbelievable! All those great teams and yet those nasty Montreal Canadiens blocked that great team from really becoming a dynasty aka the New York Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers. But now it is 2011 and the Bruins have battled their way into the Stanley Cup final against the Vancouver Canucks. Now normally I would be inclined to cheer for a Canadian based team and the opportunity to stuff it up the anti Canadian Gary Bettman. But sorry Linda, there is just something about the Boston Bruins that keeps me cheering for them.
Pretty good team again this year, no Montreal Canadiens in the way and with Tim Thomas in goal I am thinking Boston over Vancouver in six games. Should be an exciting series. I don't think there is any doubt that. on paper at least, the Canucks have the better team and probably the most complete team in the NHL. But as a loyal Boston fan I am sticking with the Bruins and hopefully a long, long, long awaited Stanley Cup championship
